This position is responsible for Fire and Emergency Medical Services training for all Fire and EMS employees.   

 Direct oversight of Firefighter/EMT Recruits and Paramedic students.    Manage training records management system and create ISO compliant records and reports.   Coordinates with operations and prevention staff for planning, organizing, scheduling, directing and instruction training programs for EMS/Fire personnel and community.    Develops, leads, participates, instructs, and manages curriculum of Paramedic, Emergency Medical Technician, Fire Fighter, EMT Recruit Trainee, special rescues, USAR, and hazmat.    Provide curriculum planning, instructional development, implementation and evaluation of EMS/FF programs and training.    Responsible for accurate record keeping of training/education of participants and responsible for ensuring the training, education and program standards are practiced and meet or exceed national industry accreditation process for all employees.   Responsible for establishing and maintaining the paramedic accreditation process; maintain compliance with National Registry, American Heart Association, etc.   Develop, implement and record assessments of participant’s progress in achieving acceptable program requirements.   Perform participant support activities and scheduling for tutoring, clinical visitations, field internships and guest interns.   Responsible for keeping current and up to date on new developments in EMS, firefighting methods, training and activities. Ensure compliance with state, federal and municipal regulations.      Trains other city employees and coordinates general public training in medical and first aid response as identified by their respective needs.   Assists in writing and editing fire department policies and procedures with regards to training, education and safety; Assists and coordinates EMS and firefighting programs for continuing education.  Develops training budget and monitors budget expenses.  Required to perform all Firefighter/Paramedic duties.  Respond to incidents upon request of Incident Command (IC) and to perform within ICS as directed by the IC.  Establish and maintain good liaison with employees, other departments and administration.     Coordinate and supervise EMS instructors to ensure they are qualified and have required certifications, material and equipment.   Ensures that the AHA/American Red Cross/NAEMT CTC training site requirements are met.  Coordinate with the EMS Section Chief to ensure nationally recognized courses – AMLS, EPC, PHTLS, ACLS, PALS and CPR instructors are certified and maintain their certifications.  Coordinate department wide training for EMS, Fire, USAR, Hazmat, etc. with EMS Coordinator and Battalion Chiefs to meet the goals of the department.  Enforces city and department rules and regulations.  Trains, assigns, directs, schedules, supervises, evaluates, and disciplines the work of personnel.  Oversee state and federal EMT/Paramedic training grant funds.  Maintain and instruct American Heart Association and NAEMT certifications and courses.  Performs related duties as assigned.
