Keynote Speaker: (Ret.) Chief Tiger Schmittendorf
Tiger Schmittendorf has dedicated his life to the success of fire and emergency services. A firefighter with the Evans Center Volunteer Fire Company in Angola, NY since 1980, he is a nationally recognized expert on fire and EMS recruitment and retention.
- Served more than 25 years as Deputy Fire Coordinator for Erie County, NY, leading training and mutual aid for 97 departments and 6,000+ responders
- Built a county-wide recruitment program that brought in 600+ new volunteers every year
- Created the IAFC’s “Recruitment & Retention Coordinator” certification course
- Serves as an advocate for the National Volunteer Fire Council
- Has led his signature conversation, “From the Xbox to the Box Alarm: Connecting Today’s Firefighters,” for thousands of responders across the U.S. and Canada since 2007

Conference cost is $175 per attendee, those that belong to a Department that is a Current (FY 2026) SD Fire Chiefs Association MEMBER will receive a $50 discount per registrant.
